Earth Mother Health Foods is the largest and oldest health food store in southeast Missouri. Locally owned and operated by Marylee Visnovske for over 32 years, we offer alternative choices for your healthy lifestyle needs. This includes 300 bulk medicinal and culinary herbs, a wall of teas, hundreds of vitamin and herbal supplements, bulk foods and groceries, fresh local produce, essential oils, and a large selection of incense. Since we carry a large variety of products in several categories, it really is worth it to stop in and visit our unique store in historic downtown Farmington. Organic crops and livestock/poultry must be grown with no synthetic herbicides, pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, etc. for 36 months prior to harvest of the first organic crop. There are strict manure and compost guidelines, also. Sewage sludge, urea, manure, or animal by-products administered to the animal are prohibited, and organic farmers may not use genetically modified seed. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria vital for proper digestion that are normally present in the digestive tract. The probiotics most often used as supplements are Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum. Cultured, or fermented, foods contain various types of beneficial bacteria. These include sauerkraut, tempeh, yogurt, and kefir, to name a few.

NPA: This is an organization that Earth Mother Health Foods is a member of and pay dues to. The first question we ask a company who is trying to sell us their product is, “Are you a member of the NPA?” The Natural Products Association is a nonprofit organization serving as a watchdog on supplement regulation and legislation. This is a training and treatment facility for emergency personnel working on critical incidents. This includes those in law enforcement, emergency medical personnel, military personnel and other first responders- no matter what uniform is worn. Traumatic incidents these personnel may be involved in include line of duty injury, mass casualty, substance abuse, their safety jeopardized, suicide of a colleague, injury or death of a child, and many more.
