    Organic crops and livestock/poultry must be grown with no synthetic herbicides, pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, etc. for 36 months prior to harvest of the first organic crop. There are strict manure and compost guidelines, also. Sewage sludge, urea, manure, or animal by-products administered to the animal are prohibited, and organic farmers may not use genetically modified seed.
